Omega: New Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Master Chronometer 20216 January 2021
Omega opens 2021 with the new edition of the Speedmaster Moonwatch inspired by the fourth generation design of the Ref. ST 105.012 combined with the new antimagnetic caliber Master Chronometer 3861.
Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA says, “When updating a sacred timepiece like the Speedmaster Moonwatch, every detail must be true to its original spirit. This chronograph is recognised the world over, so we’ve approached its design with the most sincere respect, while taking its movement to the next level.”
The tributes to the historic 1969 model worn by Apollo 11 astronauts are varied and include the classic asymmetrical case with twisted lugs, short and wide pushers, the step dial, the domed minute and seconds chronograph hands, the double bevel caseback, and the famous dot over 90 (DON) and a dot diagonal to 70 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring.
THE NEW CALIBER 3861
Perhaps the most significant update comes with the arrival of the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. Realised in 2019 after four years of development, the Caliber 3861 brings with it many improvements such as the 50-hour power reserve, resistance to magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, the Co-Axial escapement and the silicon Si14 balance spring.
Thanks to these important update, the new Speedmaster Moonwatch is now Master Chronometer certified, guaranteeing the highest standard of precision, chronometric performance and anti-magnetism in the industry. To achieve the mark, every single Moonwatch will undergo eight rigorous tests before it leaves the manufacture and be overseen by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
Similar to Moonwatch styles of the past, OMEGA has also made changes to the integrated bracelet with a five-arched-links-per-row and a new satin-finished clasp with a polished OMEGA logo.
But that’s not all, even the dials shows OMEGA’s attention to detail. In accordance with the Calibre 3861’s frequency, the minute track is now split by 3 divisions, as opposed to the 5 divisions on previous models.
The new Speedmaster Moonwatch 2021 is available in 8 versions, in steel with esalite glass, closed caseback and OMEGA logo printed at 12 (€ 6.300), in steel with sapphire crystal, open caseback and applied OMEGA logo at 12 o’clock (€ 7.200), in 18k Sedna TM gold (€ 34.900) and in Canopus Gold TM 18k (€ 45.400). All watches come with OMEGA’s full 5-year warranty.
