There are many new releases from Vacheron Constantin at Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026, and many of them are striking. One in particular, however, caught our attention for several reasons: because it is ultra-thin; because it is an Overseas; and because of the beauty of its dial. It is the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic, and these three reasons take us straight to the heart of what Vacheron Constantin represents in the present and past of fine watchmaking.

The following article is dedicated to the new Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic. Paragraph by paragraph, we will see how this model fits into the tradition of Vacheron Constantin’s ultra-thin watches; we will discover the characteristics of its new calibre and the aesthetic details that make it one of the most beautiful surprises at Watches and Wonders Geneva.
VACHERON CONSTANTIN AND ULTRA-THIN CALIBRES
The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic continues a legacy of excellence which, at the Geneva-based Maison, is expressed through the creation of ultra-thin movements. A tradition that, in 1955, to mark the Manufacture’s 200th anniversary, gave rise to the hand-wound calibre 1003, a marvel for its time: just 1.64 mm thick. A few years later, in 1968, the ultra-thin movement became automatic with the calibre 1120, which, at 2.45 mm thick and bearing the Poinçon de Genève quality certification, remained Vacheron Constantin’s standard until the present day.

In practice, that is, until the new Calibre 2550, which debuts today in the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic and is one of the elements that help place the watch at the pinnacle of Vacheron Constantin’s range. To create it, the engineers drew on the state-of-the-art mechanics and innovation of the Manufacture, identifying a number of technical solutions that could form the basis for future high-end movements. They have thus created the slimmest Overseas ever.
CALIBRE 2550: THE HEART OF THE OVERSEAS ULTRA-THIN AUTOMATIC
These are three solutions that integrate and complement one another: a bidirectional micro-rotor, a double suspended barrel and a single-level gear train. The combination of these elements – starting with the 15.5 mm diameter platinum micro-rotor – helps to keep the dimensions of the Calibre 2550 in the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic to a minimum: 30.6 mm in diameter and 2.4 mm thick. These dimensions do not compromise the movement’s precision or durability, as verified by rigorous testing.

The double suspended barrel, on the other hand, was designed to increase the power reserve whilst optimising space. Two superimposed barrels rotate around a single pivot fixed to the barrel bridge. They are assembled in series, and the inverted superimposition has made it possible to eliminate one of their covers, reducing the thickness of the movement. Furthermore, as the winding torque is transmitted directly to the upper barrel and energy is supplied by the lower barrel to the timekeeping mechanism, the engineers at Vacheron Constantin have also eliminated the pinion, gaining further space. The two barrels in series, connected via their respective arbors, ensure stable torque and timekeeping, with a power reserve of 80 hours.

The gear train, redesigned to fit within a reduced space and on a single level, comprises five wheels, two of which are mounted on ball bearings. The micro-rotor is integrated into the mainplate and the calibre operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour.
The finishes of the Calibre 2550 powering the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic are in keeping with Vacheron Constantin’s tradition of refinement: a base plate decorated with perlage, Côtes de Genève on the bridges, an upper barrel cover finished with a snail pattern that echoes that of the barrel visible on the dial side, which is satin-finished, and wheels with a sunburst finish. The micro-rotor is circularly satin-finished along the edge, grené on the inside and features a polished motif reminiscent of a compass rose.
OVERSEAS ULTRA-THIN AUTOMATIC: THE CASE AND BRACELET
The mechanical excellence of the new Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic must not, however, overshadow the watch’s overall beauty and quality. We are talking about a model from the Overseas collection, Vacheron Constantin’s line most dedicated to adventure and exploration. However, here we are in the presence of a dress watch in every sense, from the material of the bracelet and case (platinum) to the dimensions of the latter: 39.5 mm by 7.35 mm.

In crafting the case, the Maison has poured all the mastery it possesses into the work. The satin finish on the top contrasts with the polished finish on the sides, just as the satin finish on the ring supporting the bezel acts as a counterpoint to the polished finish of the bezel itself. The bracelet is also satin-finished on the outside and polished on the bevels, featuring classic links whose shape recalls the half Maltese cross, the symbol of Vacheron Constantin.
The bracelet, both a blessing and a curse for those who wear their watch whilst working at a desk, becomes nothing but a blessing in the case of the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic. The 950 platinum alloy from which it is made contains 5% copper and gallium, a rare composition in watchmaking chosen to ensure greater resistance to shocks and scratches. A heat-treating process further enhances its mechanical properties, making it 2.7 times more durable than the 950 platinum normally used for watch cases and bracelets.
THE DIAL
In addition to the materials, what sets this watch apart is the aesthetics of the dial. Understated and minimalist, it stands out for its elegant salmon dial with a sunray satin finish. There is no date window to disrupt the overall balance. The indexes are baton-shaped, in white gold, faceted and filled with blue-emitting Super-LumiNova, as are the hands. The minute track is double: the first on the sloping flange, while the second is mirrored, positioned directly on the dial.
The choice of salmon pink is not merely dictated by the pursuit of elegance, blended with the sportiness of the collection. The colour of this Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic is, in fact, rooted in the history of Vacheron Constantin, which has used it on several occasions in the past, particularly in models from the 1940s. Closer to the present day, the colour scheme is reminiscent of that of the Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph (2022). The white gold Maltese crossapplied at 12 o’clock confirms this model’s place within the finest lineage of the Manufacture’s creations.

We will not revisit the history of Vacheron Constantin’s Overseas in this article. To refresh your memory, we refer you to this article. What matters when discussing the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic is the watch’s overall quality. A timepiece certified by the Poinçon de Genève, in keeping with Vacheron Constantin’s finest tradition, and limited to 255 pieces, each individually numbered.
