Few watches are as emblematic of a manufacture as the Ref. 5130 is of Patek Philippe. Introduced in 2006, the Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5130R-001 represents an evolution of the Maison’s historic interpretation of the world time complication, featuring a larger case than the previous generation.
The watch offered here, dating from 2010, belongs to Patek Philippe’s long tradition of displaying all 24 time zones simultaneously, based on the system developed by Louis Cottier while remaining faithful to the technical principles established in the last century. The 39.5 mm rose gold case is distinguished by its balanced proportions and highly refined construction. Protected by a sapphire crystal, the silvered dial is organised according to the classic World Time layout, featuring a city ring and a day/night indication. Together, these displays provide an intuitive and highly legible reading of world time. The outer ring displays the names of 24 cities, each representing a different time zone. The inner 24-hour ring indicates the corresponding local time for each city. All time zone adjustments can be made by pressing a single push-piece located on the case at 10 o’clock.
Powering the watch is the automatic Patek Philippe Calibre 240 HU, an ultra-thin movement featuring an off-centre gold micro-rotor. The calibre displays the hours, minutes, world time across 24 time zones and a day/night indicator. It offers a power reserve of approximately 48 hours and operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour. The watch is fitted with an alligator leather strap and is offered as a full set.
