Laurent Ferrier: Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral
17 October 2016This week, for the usual appointment with our wrist reviews, we wore a timepiece with a classic sould and an elegant style, the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral by Laurent Ferrier.
At first sight it might seem to be a “normal” three hands watch, but sometimes looks can be deceiving. Behind the white enamel Grand Feu dial, with central hours and minutes hands, and small seconds at 6 o’clock, is hiding a true high watchmaking caliber…
The manual winding caliber LF 619.01 with 80 hours of power reserve (inspired from the timeless movements of the XIX and XX century) can be seen through the sapphire-glass case back, together with the incredible Tourbillon with double balance-spring. What distinguishes itself from a “classic” Tourbillon? Simple, for the first time since its creation, more than 200 years ago, this escapement is conceived with two spirals, which increases the accuracy. Obviously Mr. Laurent Ferrier developed by himself both caliber and escapement.
I’m sure that you are now questioning yourselves about why, one of the most fascinating horology inventions, like the Tourbillon, is not emphasized on the dial as usually happens with 99% of the other watches with this particular escapement. We’ll answer you with a very famous quote by Coco Chanel: “Some people think luxury is the opposite of poverty. It is not. It is the opposite of vulgarity.”
Let’s say that the Galet Classic Tourbillon Double Spiral is a pure understatement from an aesthetical point of view.
Wearing one of the most incredible creation (that have also been awarded with a Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve) of the Master Ferrier has been an honor. The size are well-proportioned, the weight balanced and the style refined. The price “€.180.000” is indeed super high and for very few people, however we couldn’t expect less from this masterpiece.
