With the new TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa, the Swiss watchmaker renews its collaboration with Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department, unveiling a limited edition that goes far beyond a simple styling exercise. Produced in just 150 individually numbered pieces, the chronograph reinterprets the modern Carrera Glassbox through the visual identity of one of the most iconic names in Japanese motorsport, bringing together history, contemporary design and racing culture in a project built around storytelling.
Following the success of their first collaboration in 2023, TAG Heuer once again joins forces with Team Ikuzawa and George Bamford, reaffirming a partnership that is expressed not only through the watch’s aesthetics, but above all through its ability to translate a cultural legacy into a watchmaking project. The result is a chronograph that preserves the essence of the Carrera while reinterpreting it through direct references to the timing instruments that accompanied Japanese motorsport throughout the 1970s and 1980s.
TEAM IKUZAWA: WHEN MOTORSPORT BECOMES CULTURE
To fully appreciate the significance of this project, it is necessary to look beyond the watch itself. Founded in 1981, Team Ikuzawa is one of the most iconic names in Japanese motorsport and, in recent years, has successfully transformed its racing heritage into a cultural platform that now extends into the worlds of fashion, design and luxury.
Much of the credit belongs to Mai Ikuzawa, Team Principal and Creative Director, who grew up in Tokyo immersed in the world of motorsport before studying at Central Saint Martins in London. Through a vision that blends tradition with contemporary creativity, Mai Ikuzawa has redefined the role of the brand, preserving its racing DNA while opening it to new forms of creative expression.
For this second collaboration with TAG Heuer, Mai Ikuzawa once again partnered with George Bamford, founder of Bamford Watch Department and one of the industry’s leading figures when it comes to contemporary reinterpretations of iconic watches. Their objective was to translate Team Ikuzawa’s visual language into the TAG Heuer Carrera without altering its original design balance, instead enhancing its character through a carefully considered series of details.
INSPIRED BY THE HISTORIC ROADMASTER
The project takes its inspiration from one of the most significant objects preserved in the Team Ikuzawa archives: the Roadmaster, a stopwatch used during the golden age of Japanese motorsport. Defined by its minimalist graphics, bold colour contrasts and exceptional legibility, it has become one of the enduring symbols of the team’s identity.
Rather than simply reproducing its appearance, Mai Ikuzawa and George Bamford chose to reinterpret its graphic language, carefully analysing its colours, proportions and design cues before translating its spirit onto the dial of the new Carrera. It is precisely this thoughtful approach that sets the project apart from a conventional special edition: every element is rooted in a specific historical reference rather than being the result of a purely stylistic choice.
A DIAL INSPIRED BY HISTORIC TIMING INSTRUMENTS
The identity of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is expressed above all through its dial, which has been completely redesigned to evoke the competition timing instruments once used by the Japanese racing team.
The white Clous de Paris textured surface forms the foundation of the entire composition, while printed Arabic numerals replace applied hour markers, reinforcing the watch’s graphic character and enhancing visual clarity. Red – the signature colour of Team Ikuzawa – appears throughout the dial, from the rhodium-plated, faceted hour and minute hands featuring red lacquer accents and white Super-LumiNova, to the central chronograph seconds hand, the 3 o’clock minute counter and the angled date display at 6 o’clock, where every numeral is printed in the same shade.
To complete the design, a black rehaut with a white 60-second/minute scale frames the dial alongside a red TAG Heuer logo, creating a balanced composition that prioritises legibility and instant readability – two qualities that have always defined the Carrera collection.
One of the most distinctive features, however, is the absence of a running seconds display. Thanks to the in-house TH20-10 chronograph calibre, TAG Heuer chose to dedicate that space to the Team Ikuzawa signature at 6 o’clock. It is a solution that directly recalls several historic TAG Heuer chronographs from the 1960s and 1970s, when this area of the dial was often reserved for the logos of racing teams, sponsors or technical partners. It is a subtle yet highly effective detail that further reinforces the connection between this chronograph and the world of motorsport.
THE CARRERA GLASSBOX AS THE FOUNDATION OF THE PROJECT
To bring this limited edition to life, TAG Heuer chose the current Carrera Glassbox, reinterpreting it without altering its proportions. The 39 mm stainless steel case, finished with alternating brushed and polished surfaces, retains the collection’s distinctive bezel-less construction, allowing the domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating to extend seamlessly to the edge of the case and provide an uninterrupted view of both the dial and the rehaut. This design faithfully reflects the philosophy introduced by Jack Heuer, for whom legibility and functionality were the defining principles of the original Carrera.
THE TH20-10 CALIBRE AND THE DETAILS THAT DEFINE THE WATCH
At the heart of the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa beats the in-house TH20-10 chronograph calibre. It was selected not only for its technical capabilities, but also because its architecture allowed TAG Heuer to eliminate the traditional running seconds display, freeing up space for the Team Ikuzawa signature at 6 o’clock. Visible through the sapphire crystal screw-down caseback, the movement reveals the mechanical heart of the watch without compromising the robustness of the construction.
The caseback itself further underlines the collaborative nature of the project. Alongside the individual numbering of each of the 150 pieces, it features dedicated engravings for Team Ikuzawa and Bamford Watch Department, transforming the reverse of the case into a reminder of the people behind this collaboration.
The 39 mm stainless steel case retains all the defining characteristics of the contemporary Carrera Glassbox. Alongside the domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective coating are a steel crown with a red lacquered ring and the collection’s signature round chronograph pushers, all finished with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. Water resistance is rated at 100 metres, perfectly in keeping with the model’s sporting character.
THREE DISTINCT LOOKS, ONE CARRERA
The TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa is fitted with the collection’s traditional seven-row stainless steel bracelet, distinguished by alternating brushed and polished finishes. It is also supplied with two additional straps, allowing the watch to adopt three distinct personalities.
The first is a perforated white leather strap with red stitching and a red lining, inspired by classic motorsport driving gloves. The second is a white textile strap with red stripes that echo Team Ikuzawa’s historic racing livery. Both are paired with a stainless steel double-push-button deployant clasp, giving owners three distinctive ways to wear the watch while preserving its unmistakable identity.
A PRESENTATION BOX INSPIRED BY THE PIT GARAGE
Attention to detail extends well beyond the watch itself. For this limited edition, TAG Heuer has created an exclusive presentation box inspired by the toolboxes traditionally found in workshops and racing pit garages.
Alongside the watch, the presentation set includes the two additional straps, a travel pouch and a selection of Team Ikuzawa personalised charms designed for keys and everyday accessories. Together, these elements further strengthen the connection between the Carrera and the world of motorsport.

Limited to 150 individually numbered pieces, the TAG Heuer Carrera Chronograph x Team Ikuzawa will be available from July 2026 with a retail price of €. 10,450.
