Description
Created by Jacques-David LeCoultre in 1931, the Reverso was originally designed to withstand the harsh impacts a watch might endure during a polo match. Thanks to its ingenious swiveling case, the dial can be safely flipped over during play and then returned to its natural position with a simple motion. Over time, the model has become one of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s most important creations, with a wide array of contemporary variations appealing to both enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike.
The watch presented here is a Reverso Grande Taille “Art Déco” Ref. 270.2.62, dating from around the year 2000. It features a striking black dial housed in a rose gold case. The “Grande Taille” case, a Jaeger-LeCoultre signature, measures 42 x 26 mm — proportions based on the Golden Ratio (1.618), also known as the “divine proportion.” Enhancing this sense of balance, the case combines polished surfaces with engraved horizontal lines along its top and bottom edges. The most remarkable aspect of this piece lies in the distinctive and captivating dial design. Inspired by the layout of the Ref. 270.2.62, this specific model features a deep black dial adorned with elegant white floral-style Arabic numerals in pure Art Deco fashion. It is complemented by kite-shaped hands filled with luminescent material and a small seconds subdial positioned at 6 o’clock. The dark dial harmonizes beautifully with the rose gold case, creating a refined and visually balanced composition.
Powering the watch is Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house caliber 822, an ultra-thin hand-wound movement measuring just 2.94 mm thick, with 21 jewels, a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, and a power reserve of 45 hours when fully wound. The watch is in excellent overall condition and comes with the exclusive Watch Insanity presentation kit.
