Description
The Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5110 was introduced in 2000 and remained in production until 2006, before being replaced by the subsequent Ref. 5130. It represents one of the most refined and elegant interpretations of the world time complication, which first appeared in a wristwatch in 1931 thanks to the invention of Louis Cottier. Cottier later collaborated with major Maisons such as Vacheron Constantin and, notably, Patek Philippe. From his collaboration with the Stern family’s manufacture came, in 1937, the smallest world-time wristwatch ever made: Ref. 1415 HU.
The Ref. 5110P offered here dates to 2003 and features the classic 37 mm Calatrava-style platinum case. The light-blue dial showcases a guilloché center, framed by the rotating city ring with the names of 24 cities, an unmistakable hallmark of Patek Philippe’s world time aesthetic. This timepiece allows the wearer to track both local time and home time by adjusting the city ring using the pusher at 10 o’clock, which is used to set the reference city positioned at 12 o’clock. Local time is then set via the crown, ensuring that the 24-hour disc—moving in sync with the hands—displays the correct AM or PM indication for the local time zone. At 6 o’clock, set into the case, is the signature diamond that distinguishes Patek Philippe’s platinum models.
Inside the case beats the in-house automatic calibre 240 HU, operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour and offering an approximate power reserve of 48 hours. Finely finished and visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, the movement is notable for its micro-rotor engraved with the Calatrava cross. The watch is completed by a black alligator leather strap with a deployant clasp, also bearing the Calatrava cross. This Patek Philippe World Time Ref. 5110P is offered full set.
