Description
Girard-Perregaux has a recent history in which there is ample space for the world of motors. In addition to the partnership with Aston Martin that continues to this day, in the 90s it created some watches intended to be donated to Fiat managers who were celebrating 30 years in the company. But, among the most interesting and sought-after references that unite the La Chaux-de-Fonds brand with motorsport, there is the Laureato Chronograph created to celebrate the launch of the Ferrari F-40. The car was presented in 1987 for the first forty years of the car manufacturer’s sporting activity and was equipped with a 2.9L V8 engine with 478 hp. It was the fastest production car between 1987 and 1989, reaching 324 km/h. Only 400 were supposed to be built, but by the end of production, more than 1,000 were delivered. To mark that anniversary, Girard-Perregaux dedicated a chronograph version of the iconic Laureato made in a limited edition of 500 pieces, which quickly became highly sought after by collectors and enthusiasts.
This is why the watch proposed here, a Girard-Perregaux Laureato Chronograph Ferrari F40 Ref. 80190 from 2005, takes on a particular value. This splendid timepiece features a 43 mm steel case and an octagonal steel bezel that enhances its overall aesthetic and has distinguished the Laureato collection since its origins. The dial is black, in carbon fiber. It features three chronograph counters: the 60-second counter at 3 o’clock, the 24-hour counter at 9 o’clock, and the 12-hour counter at 6 o’clock. The watch is powered by the GP033C0 caliber self-winding movement and boasts a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The watch is in excellent condition and comes complete with accessories.
