In 2017, Bulgari's Octo Finissimo Automatic set a world record as the thinnest automatic watch ever made, marking a new chapter in the history of haute horlogerie. It was the brand's third consecutive world record, but above all, it demonstrated how the pursuit of ultra-thin watchmaking could go beyond a purely technical challenge and give rise to an entirely new design language.
The reference 103137, produced in a limited edition of just 200 pieces, is one of the most distinctive interpretations of the Octo Finissimo. Its signature octagonal case, crafted from sandblasted titanium, measures 40 mm in diameter and just 5.15 mm in thickness, flowing seamlessly into an integrated bracelet made from the same material. Against the matte grey dial, the applied hour markers and hands with a rose gold finish create an elegant contrast, adding a touch of warmth to an otherwise understated aesthetic.
Equally fascinating is what lies beneath the dial. The in-house automatic calibre BVL 138, measuring just 2.23 mm thick, features a platinum micro-rotor that helps keep the movement exceptionally slim while providing automatic winding and a 60-hour power reserve. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, its architecture and finishing reflect the technical expertise behind one of the most significant achievements in contemporary ultra-thin watchmaking.
Dating from 2021, this example is presented in excellent condition and comes complete with its original box and documentation.
