Tissot PRX Grendizer, the return of goldrake to your wrist

There is a generation that learned to dream in front of the television screen, when the unmistakable echo of a theme song — still echoing in the memories of many today — announced the arrival of a warrior from the stars: UFO Robot Goldrake. A hero who, in 1975, thanks to the visionary imagination of Go Nagai, opened the doors to a new dimension, bringing to Italy a universe capable of intertwining action, technology, and human emotion.

Today, that legend is reborn thanks to Tissot, which celebrates the 50th anniversary of the manga with the PRX Grendizer 50th Anniversary Special Edition — a limited edition of 1,975 pieces where Swiss watchmaking meets the timeless spirit of an immortal icon. Each piece, individually numbered and engraved with the words “Limited Edition 1 of 1975”, pays tribute to the year Goldrake first appeared on screen and captured the hearts of an entire generation. The PRX Grendizer 50th Anniversary Special Edition is therefore not merely a timepiece, but a fragment of history — a bridge between memory and innovation.

TISSOT AND GRENDIZER: ACT TWO

This is not the first time that Go Nagai’s creative universe has encountered Tissot. Before marking the 50th anniversary, the brand had already paid tribute to Japanese manga with a dedicated PRX Powermatic 80, a model that blended the aesthetics of the space hero with the essential yet refined lines of the PRX collection.

In that first version, the watch retained its signature architecture — a 40 mm steel case, integrated satin-finished bracelet, and polished bezel — elements that make it instantly recognisable and faithful to the 1970s spirit from which the collection draws inspiration.

The dial evoked Grendizer’s universe directly, with colour accents inspired by the animated series, luminous hour markers, and the Powermatic 80 automatic movement, offering a power reserve of up to 80 hours.

THE TISSOT PRX GRENDIZER 50TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION

If the PRX Powermatic 80 Grendizer represented an elegant first declaration of love for Go Nagai’s hero, the new 50th Anniversary edition goes one step further: it not only celebrates but reinterprets the story of Goldrake, transforming it. The result is the PRX Grendizer 50th Anniversary Special Edition.

With a 40 mm diameter reminiscent of the first model, this new timepiece features a tapered case fully coated in black PVD, a sapphire crystal on top, and a mineral glass caseback revealing the movement.
Water-resistant to 10 bar (100 m / 330 ft), the case also bears a special Japanese engraving of UFO Robot Goldrake inside the flange.

The black sunburst dial depicts Goldrake in a dynamic pose, with engravings and layered textures that lend depth and realism. The eyes and hour markers, treated with Super-LumiNova, stand out against the dark dial, while the baton-style seconds hand — shaped like a space halberd and crafted from 18-carat gold — adds a unique signature touch. The hour and minute hands, also coated with Super-LumiNova, ensure optimal readability.

At the heart of the watch beats the Powermatic 80 automatic calibre, with a power reserve of up to 80 hours and a Nivachron™ balance spring resistant to magnetic fields and temperature variations.
The special rotor is engraved with the Goldrake emblem.

The single-link steel bracelet, featuring an interchangeable system and a triple-blade folding clasp, combines comfort, security, and ergonomics — enhancing a design consistent with the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the PRX line.

SPECIAL PACKAGING

The presentation case completes the experience: a black-and-gold box that houses the watch inside a capsule inspired by the Spazer UFO, and includes exclusive illustrations by Go Nagai. Every detail is conceived to merge heritage, design, and engineering, making this PRX a true collector’s item.
