Petrol Blue and Mint Green: Hublot ceramics get a new look

Hublot is synonymous with several concepts: fusion, experimentation, avant-garde and, in the materials field, especially sapphire and ceramic, not to mention the more common ones. Particularly in the art of coloured ceramics, the Nyon-based brand is one of the few in Switzerland to have the expertise and technology required to work with such a beautiful, complex and delicate material. This experience, gained over many years, allows Hublot to offer the richest and most varied ceramic collections in the watchmaking world. We are talking mainly about the Big Bang, which celebrates its 20th anniversary in this 2025, a year full of commemorations.

The Big Bang collection is being enriched with new colours, the result of the brand’s colour research. And, of course, we are talking about unusual, even unique shades: petrol blue and mint green. These colours are obtained through a synthesis process we already reported on in this article – which is therefore unnecessary to recount here. Instead, let’s focus on the new watches: the Petrol Blue and Mint Green Big Bang Unico.

NEW COLOURS, TIMELESS CHARM

Inspired by both spring and summer fashion hues, these two new ceramic colors are complementary yet very different, both evocative and seductive. Presented in April at Watches and Wonders Geneva, they immediately nodded to the warmer months, confident in their appeal.

The intense, warm petrol blue ceramic with just a hint of green is unlike any other blue ceramic on the market. Hublot’s intention is that it should evoke both the depths of the open sea and the tranquillity of the forest; it has just the right brightness to stand out and reflect all the shades it is composed of, but it is also discreet and elegant enough not to be too eye-catching and to suit different styles.

Mint green, on the other hand, is relaxing and reassuring, an incredibly unisex shade exclusive to Hublot. Designed to appeal to the tastes of different types of enthusiasts, it is as unusual as it is special, and fits perfectly with both case sizes and both types of watches: time and chronograph.

The Hublot Big Bang Unico 42 mm has a polished ceramic bezel and case, water resistant to 10 bar, and is 14.50 mm thick. This ensures a comfortable fit on the wrist—thanks to the combination of the thickness and lightness of the ceramic—and proven scratch resistance during everyday wear, thanks to the material’s durability.

The sapphire crystal with internal and external anti-reflective coating ensures readability; the bezel – as always with the Big Bang – is secured to the case by six functional titanium screws with H-shaped heads, one of the details most appreciated by Hublot enthusiasts. Equally appreciated and distinctive is the design of the Big Bang Unico dial, well known to the brand’s fans.

It is skeletonised, available with mint green or petrol blue details, and offers an interesting view of the movement. For the latter, Hublot has played it safe with the HUB1280 calibre, a self-winding chronograph movement with flyback function and column wheel. Developed by the manufacturer on the basis of the HUB1240, it equips the chronographs in the Big Bang Unico collection and stands out for its reliability, as well as its three-day power reserve.

Returning to the dial, the characteristic Arabic numerals alternating with the applied hour markers ensure precise readability of the information. This is also thanks to the hour and minute hands, which feature the traditional Big Bang design, as does the chronograph seconds hand, which as a counterweight has an oversized Hublot logo. And thanks to the luminescent material that generously fills the Arabic numerals and hands, visibility is guaranteed even in low light conditions. The flyback chronograph functions are performed by the small continuous seconds dial at 9 o’clock and the 60-minute counter at 3 o’clock. The display is completed by the date window at 3 o’clock, inside the minute counter.

The chronograph is paired with a rubber strap lined to match the colour of the case. Fastened by a folding titanium buckle, it is equipped with Hublot’s One Click system, which makes it very easy to replace.

BE SEDUCE BY HUBLOT

The price of the watches is the same for each of the two color variations: €25,000. Considering that these are classic examples of references designed for the warmer months, both very attractive, it would be interesting to see if some daring enthusiast would try to treat themselves to a chronograph in each color.

It wouldn’t be surprising, we believe, because the shades are so captivating that they’re easily tempting. The fact that Hublot has succeeded with two seemingly seasonal shades increases the value (not the economic one, of course) of these new references.
