A precious yet deliberately understated configuration, at least until your attention turns to the dial.<\/p>\n<p>It is the so-called<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>\u201cRacing Dial\u201d<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>that gives this example its distinctive personality. The<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>slate-grey dial<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>is punctuated by red accents, with large applied Arabic numerals and a design that reinforces the Daytona\u2019s connection to the world of motor racing. A far more distinctive dial than the more traditional configurations, it has become one of the most recognisable faces of ref. 116509 over the years.<\/p>\n<p>The<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>40 mm case<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>retains the classic white gold bezel with engraved tachymeter scale, while the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>18k white gold Oyster bracelet<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>alternates brushed and polished surfaces and is completed by an<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Oysterlock safety clasp. This contrast is precisely what makes the 116509 so distinctive: the relatively understated appearance of a white-metal Daytona, combined with the weight and wrist presence of a watch crafted entirely from gold.<\/p>\n<p>Inside is the<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>Calibre 4130, the first self-winding chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Designed to reduce the number of components while improving efficiency, reliability and ease of servicing, it features a<span class=\"apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span>column wheel, vertical clutch and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. A movement that powered the modern generation of the Daytona for more than two decades, becoming one of its most defining technical features.<\/p>\n<p>In this case, however, the real distinction is not hidden inside the movement. It lies in its condition.
