There are many new releases from\u00a0Vacheron Constantin<\/strong>\u00a0at\u00a0Watches and Wonders Geneva 2026<\/strong>, and many of them are striking. One in particular, however, caught our attention for several reasons: because it is\u00a0ultra-thin<\/strong>; because it is an\u00a0Overseas<\/strong>; and because of the beauty of its dial. It is the\u00a0Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic<\/strong>, and these three reasons take us straight to the heart of what Vacheron Constantin represents in the present and past of\u00a0fine watchmaking<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Vacheron<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The following article is dedicated to the new\u00a0Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic<\/strong>. Paragraph by paragraph, we will see how this model fits into the tradition of\u00a0Vacheron Constantin\u2019s ultra-thin watches<\/strong>; we will discover the characteristics of its new calibre and the aesthetic details that make it one of the most beautiful surprises at\u00a0Watches and Wonders Geneva<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

VACHERON CONSTANTIN AND ULTRA-THIN CALIBRES<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The new\u00a0Vacheron Constantin Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic<\/strong>\u00a0continues a legacy of excellence which, at the Geneva-based Maison, is expressed through the creation of\u00a0ultra-thin movements<\/strong>. A tradition that, in 1955, to mark the Manufacture\u2019s 200th anniversary, gave rise to the hand-wound\u00a0calibre 1003<\/strong>, a marvel for its time: just 1.64 mm thick. A few years later, in 1968, the ultra-thin movement became automatic with the\u00a0calibre 1120<\/strong>, which, at 2.45 mm thick and bearing the\u00a0Poin\u00e7on de Gen\u00e8ve<\/strong>\u00a0quality certification, remained Vacheron Constantin\u2019s standard until the present day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Vacheron<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

In practice, that is, until the new\u00a0Calibre 2550<\/strong>, which debuts today in the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic and is one of the elements that help place the watch at the pinnacle of Vacheron Constantin\u2019s range. To create it, the engineers drew on the state-of-the-art mechanics and innovation of the Manufacture, identifying a number of technical solutions that could form the basis for future high-end movements. They have thus created the\u00a0slimmest Overseas ever<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CALIBRE 2550: THE HEART OF THE OVERSEAS ULTRA-THIN AUTOMATIC<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

These are three solutions that integrate and complement one another: a\u00a0bidirectional micro-rotor<\/strong>, a\u00a0double suspended barrel<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0single-level gear train<\/strong>. The combination of these elements \u2013 starting with the 15.5 mm diameter\u00a0platinum micro-rotor<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 helps to keep the dimensions of the\u00a0Calibre 2550<\/strong>\u00a0in the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic to a minimum: 30.6 mm in diameter and\u00a02.4 mm thick<\/strong>. These dimensions do not compromise the movement\u2019s precision or durability, as verified by rigorous testing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Vacheron<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The\u00a0double suspended barrel<\/strong>, on the other hand, was designed to increase the\u00a0power reserve<\/strong>\u00a0whilst optimising space. Two superimposed barrels rotate around a single pivot fixed to the barrel bridge. They are assembled in series, and the inverted superimposition has made it possible to eliminate one of their covers, reducing the thickness of the movement. Furthermore, as the winding torque is transmitted directly to the upper barrel and energy is supplied by the lower barrel to the timekeeping mechanism, the engineers at Vacheron Constantin have also eliminated the pinion, gaining further space. The two barrels in series, connected via their respective arbors, ensure stable torque and timekeeping, with a\u00a0power reserve of 80 hours<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Vacheron<\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

The gear train, redesigned to fit within a reduced space and on a single level, comprises five wheels, two of which are mounted on ball bearings. The micro-rotor is integrated into the mainplate and the calibre operates at\u00a021,600 vibrations per hour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The finishes of the\u00a0Calibre 2550<\/strong>\u00a0powering the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic are in keeping with Vacheron Constantin\u2019s tradition of refinement: a base plate decorated with\u00a0perlage<\/strong>,\u00a0C\u00f4tes de Gen\u00e8ve<\/strong>\u00a0on the bridges, an upper barrel cover finished with a snail pattern that echoes that of the barrel visible on the dial side, which is satin-finished, and wheels with a sunburst finish. The micro-rotor is circularly satin-finished along the edge, gren\u00e9 on the inside and features a polished motif reminiscent of a\u00a0compass rose<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

OVERSEAS ULTRA-THIN AUTOMATIC: THE CASE AND BRACELET<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The mechanical excellence of the new Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic must not, however, overshadow the watch\u2019s overall beauty and quality. We are talking about a model from the\u00a0Overseas collection<\/strong>, Vacheron Constantin\u2019s line most dedicated to adventure and exploration. However, here we are in the presence of a\u00a0dress watch<\/strong>\u00a0in every sense, from the material of the bracelet and case (platinum<\/strong>) to the dimensions of the latter:\u00a039.5 mm by 7.35 mm<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In crafting the case, the Maison has poured all the mastery it possesses into the work. The satin finish on the top contrasts with the polished finish on the sides, just as the satin finish on the ring supporting the bezel acts as a counterpoint to the polished finish of the bezel itself. The bracelet is also satin-finished on the outside and polished on the bevels, featuring classic links whose shape recalls the\u00a0half Maltese cross<\/strong>, the symbol of Vacheron Constantin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The bracelet, both a blessing and a curse for those who wear their watch whilst working at a desk, becomes nothing but a blessing in the case of the Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic. The\u00a0950 platinum alloy<\/strong>\u00a0from which it is made contains 5% copper and gallium, a rare composition in watchmaking chosen to ensure greater resistance to shocks and scratches. A heat-treating process further enhances its mechanical properties, making it\u00a02.7 times more durable<\/strong>\u00a0than the 950 platinum normally used for watch cases and bracelets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE DIAL<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the materials, what sets this watch apart is the aesthetics of the dial. Understated and minimalist, it stands out for its elegant\u00a0salmon dial<\/strong>\u00a0with a\u00a0sunray satin finish<\/strong>. There is no date window to disrupt the overall balance. The indexes are baton-shaped, in\u00a0white gold<\/strong>, faceted and filled with\u00a0blue-emitting Super-LumiNova<\/strong>, as are the hands. The minute track is double: the first on the sloping flange, while the second is mirrored, positioned directly on the dial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The choice of salmon pink is not merely dictated by the pursuit of elegance, blended with the sportiness of the collection. The colour of this Overseas Ultra-Thin Automatic is, in fact, rooted in the history of Vacheron Constantin, which has used it on several occasions in the past, particularly in models from the\u00a01940s<\/strong>. Closer to the present day, the colour scheme is reminiscent of that of the\u00a0Traditionnelle Perpetual Calendar Chronograph (2022)<\/strong>. The white gold\u00a0Maltese cross<\/strong>applied at 12 o\u2019clock confirms this model\u2019s place within the finest lineage of the Manufacture\u2019s creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
