Today, his vision arrives on the wrist, and with the\u00a0MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire<\/strong>, he clearly affirms his desire to translate the indeterminacy and fluidity of time into tangible, sculptural form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

THE ORIGINS OF THE NAME MP-17 MECA-10 ARSHAM SPLASH<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As is always best in life, to understand the\u00a0MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire<\/strong>\u00a0and its meaning, we should start with its name.\u00a0MP-17<\/em>\u00a0refers to Hublot\u2019s so-called\u00a0Manufacture Pieces<\/strong>, a niche within the brand\u2019s collection synonymous with cutting-edge mechanical solutions and daring complications, often expressed through bold design. Sapphire and titanium are among the materials most favored by the Nyon-based Manufacture. Regularly used for both cases and bracelets, they have been refined by Hublot over the years for their strength and lightness. In the\u00a0MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire<\/strong>, these materials become malleable in the artist\u2019s hands, shaped into a case of complex, unconventional yet unmistakably Hublot design \u2014 the defining aesthetic feature of this watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

MP-17 MECA-10 ARSHAM SPLASH: AESTHETICS<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The case is round, measuring\u00a042 mm in diameter<\/strong>, yet it appears much more compact on the wrist. This visual impression is likely due to the bezel framing the transparent dial \u2014 a bezel unlike any we are used to seeing. Its irregular contour opens the sapphire crystal in a form reminiscent of a\u00a0splash<\/em>, a drop of water in which time itself makes a ripple through its fluidity. The\u00a0Splash<\/em>\u00a0that completes the name of the timepiece.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond the sapphire crystal bezel \u2014\u00a0laser-cut with a frosted finish<\/strong>\u00a0for a richly textured effect \u2014 it is the dial that truly defines this watch\u2019s character. The flange follows the edges of the \u201cdrop,\u201d irregular yet harmonious, an apparent contradiction to the circular motion of the hands. And yet, time remains cleanly legible, as in a classic watch \u2014 something this Hublot most certainly is not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This clarity is owed to the\u00a0hour and minute hands<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0hour markers<\/strong>\u00a0set around the\u00a0rhodium-plated, microblasted rehaut<\/strong>. There is no date display, only a\u00a010-day power reserve indicator at 3 o\u2019clock<\/strong>\u00a0and a\u00a0small seconds counter at 9 o\u2019clock<\/strong>, which seems to float above the\u00a0large balance wheel<\/strong>\u00a0visible just below at 8 o\u2019clock. The hands, indices, and power reserve indicator are all filled with\u00a0luminescent material in Arsham\u2019s signature green hue<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 a sea green consistent with the philosophy of both artist and watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HEART HUBLOT, MIND ARSHAM<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As mentioned above, the mechanical heart of the\u00a0MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0Meca-10 movement<\/strong>, here in the form of the\u00a0skeletonized HUB1205 manual-winding calibre<\/strong>, finished in grey PVD. The features enabling its\u00a0240-hour power reserve<\/strong>\u00a0have been discussed in detail in our previous article, but suffice it to say that it beats at\u00a021,600 vibrations per hour<\/strong>\u00a0and remains one of Hublot\u2019s best-balanced calibres in terms of power reserve, precision, and robustness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is housed within a\u00a0polished and microblasted titanium case<\/strong>, whose\u00a0sapphire crystal caseback<\/strong>\u00a0mirrors the same fluid, organic contours found on the dial side. The sculptural case measures\u00a015.35 mm thick<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 not slim by any means, yet wrist comfort should remain high thanks to the absence of traditional lugs. The\u00a0black rubber strap<\/strong>, embossed with\u00a0Daniel Arsham\u2019s monogram<\/strong>, is integrated directly into the case. The monogram reappears on the dial, replacing the 12 o\u2019clock marker. The watch is secured by a\u00a0titanium folding clasp<\/strong>\u00a0\u2014 though one might argue that a pin buckle could have been more suitable for such a substantial case. As expected from a creation of this caliber, the\u00a0MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire<\/strong>\u00a0is produced in a\u00a0limited edition of just 99 pieces<\/strong>, priced at\u00a0\u20ac 69,000<\/strong>. If, in 2016, Daniel Arsham described his art by saying\u00a0\u201cmy work illustrates the collapse of time,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0then with the dial of the MP-17 Meca-10 Arsham Splash Titanium Sapphire, he has given that collapse a visible, wearable form.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
