For the first time in history, IWC<\/strong><\/a><\/span> displays part of the PILOT\u2019s collection of the Schaffhausen museum, here, in their Roman boutique.<\/p>\n

We will travel through the origin and history of this incredibile series through the most rare and important 7 models of their historic collection, dedicated to world of aviation, that thrilled collectors and watch lovers for the past 80 years.<\/p>\n

SPECIAL PILOT\u2019S WATCH \u2013 1936 Ref.436<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Conceived and created by the two sons of the old owner, Ernst Jakob\u00a0Homberger, this was the first watch that started to bind IWC to the aviation world. Born to offer to pilots a very precise instrument that could be extremely reliable even in the most extreme conditions<\/strong>, it had an unbreakable glass, rotating bezel with index to track short times, anti-mangnetic escapement & glowing hands and numerals.<\/p>\n

BIG PILOT\u2019S WATCH \u2013 1940 Ref.431<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Commissioned by IWC from the German aviation \u201cLuftwaffe\u201din 1000 pieces, this model became, thanks to its big diameter<\/strong> (55mm large and 16,5mm height, 183g heavy), the biggest wristwatch ever produced by IWC<\/strong>. The extra long strap, with double loop and buckle, allowed militars to wear it on their uniform.<\/p>\n

NAVIGATORS WRIST WATCH MARK XI – 1948 Ref.6B\/346<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In a competition announced by the British government, IWC developed a set watch for the RAF aviators, the \u201cRoyal Air Force\u201d. The two most important features of the Mark XI were the big central second hand with stop-system<\/strong> (to increase the precision) and the internal case made by iron, that was protecting the movement from magnetic fields<\/strong>. This legendary reference had been produced for over 30 years, until 1981.<\/p>\n

PILOT\u2019S WATCH DOPPELCHRONOGRAPH – 1992 Ref.3711<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In this version of the Pilot, IWC presented an automatic winding caliber, with Ratrappante chronograph system,<\/strong> to measure the difference between two timelines.<\/p>\n

PILOT\u2019S WATCH CHRONOGRAPH CERAMIC – 1994 Ref.3705<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Inspired from the 1987\u2019s Da Vinci case material, \u201cthe first worldwide watch with ceramic case\u201d, IWC experimented this hi-tech ceramic material with Zirconium oxide on the Pilot case.<\/strong><\/p>\n

PILOT\u2019S WATCH MARK XII- 1994 Ref.3241<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In 1994 the Mark XII with automatic movement<\/strong> and date replaced the Mark XI.<\/p>\n

LADY PILOT\u2019S WATCH MARK XII- 1995 Ref.4421<\/strong><\/h3>\n

A Pilot dedicated to women\u2019s wrist, with a 28mm diameter<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not all, the moment I literally dropped my jaw was when they pulled out the new BIG PILOT\u2019S HERITAGE WATCH 55<\/strong>\u2026! Yes, exactly the one presented this yeat at the SIHH in a limited edition of 100 pieces.<\/strong> This model takes inspiration from its 1940 ancestor, despite that it\u2019s realized in titanium and weight less than 150 grams<\/strong>. The 55mm case encloses a mechanical movement with manual winding, featuring small seconds with stop function. The internal part of the case is in iron, and protects the watch from magnetic fields. The BIG PILOT\u2019S HERITAGE WATCH 55 is made for true collectors and lovers of aviator watches.<\/p>\n
