Following the Crash watch, the Tank Cintr\u00e9e and the Tonneau watch \u2013 the first models to be reinterpreted by the Cartier watchmaking design studio \u2013 it is the Tank Asym\u00e9trique\u2019s turn to enter the exclusive circle of this connoisseurs\u2019 club.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-heading\">TANK ASYM\u00e9TRIQUE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Tank was Louis Cartier\u2019s bright idea to give a watch the shape of a rectangle in 1917, at a time when timepieces were round<\/strong>. From 1917 to 1936, it saw multiple incarnations.&nbsp;<strong>When it appeared in 1936, the Tank Asym\u00e9trique watch \u2013 also known at the time as the&nbsp;<em>Parall\u00e9logramme&nbsp;<\/em>or&nbsp;<em>Losange&nbsp;<\/em><\/strong>\u2013 marked a break with tradition: unlike any other watch, it questioned the established order of things.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Tank Asymetrique\" class=\"wp-image-11040\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-600x400.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.watchinsanity.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/04\/Cartier_Tank_Asymetrique_2020_Watch_Insanity_05.jpg 1772w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Everything on the dial was shifted 30 degrees to the right<\/strong>. The rectangle of the original Tank became a diamond, with the 12 placed in the upper right-hand corner of the case and the 6 opposite.&nbsp;<strong>Instead of Roman numerals, Arabic numerals \u2013 and only the even digits \u2013 appeared, all separated by indexes<\/strong>. The torsion effect was such that a specific strap needed to be developed for the watch. In addition, certain models saw the axis of symmetry in the centre of the watch replaced by a special insert. On the dial, the Arabic numerals and their separating indexes have been completely redesigned.
