In 1962, Jack Heuer heard the story of the legendary Carrera Panamericana<\/strong>, one of the most treacherous road races in the world. The word \u201ccarrera\u201d<\/strong>, which in Spanish means any and all of road, race, career and course, caught his attention: he knew immediately that this would be the perfect name for a new timepiece<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The famous model from 1964 with starburst silver-coloured dial and azurage counters, is a prime choice to honour the 160th anniversary of the brand<\/strong>. Often referred to as \u201c2447S\u201d<\/strong>, this model is now being re-introduced with some twenty-first-century updates.<\/p>\n

\"Carrera\"<\/p>\n

The new Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition<\/strong>\u00a0features many of the same design highlights as its predecessor, such as the dial, the case and pushers. However, the shape is slightly different and the timepiece now measures 39 mm instead of the original 36 mm<\/strong>. The permanent second indicator is at 6\u00a0o\u2019clock instead of at 9\u00a0o\u2019clock<\/strong> due to the difference in the construction of the Valjoux 72 from 1963 and today\u2019s Heuer 02 movement. The new in-house Caliber Heuer 02 comprises 168 components, including a column wheel<\/strong> and a vertical clutch<\/strong> and boasts an impressive power reserve of 80 hours<\/strong>. Another change from the original is the shape of the central hour and minute hands, which are now facetted and coated with beige SuperLuminova<\/strong>. The unmistakable Carrera name and HEUER shield are printed on the silver sunray brushed <\/strong>dial<\/strong>, which is protected by a domed sapphire crystal.<\/p>\n

\"Carrera\"<\/p>\n

Presented on a black alligator strap, this model is limited to 1860 pieces<\/strong> \u2013 a nod to the year that Heuer was founded \u2013\u00a0and \u201cOne of 1860\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cLimited Edition\u201d are engraved on the case-back<\/strong>. The redesigned oscillating weight<\/strong>, visible through the screwed-down sapphire crystal, is adorned with a lacquer-filled engraving that distinguishes the timepiece as an anniversary edition<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
